CATERPILLAR RANKED 61ST AMONG THE WORLD’S 100 TOP BRANDS
We are proud of our role as the leader in building the world's infrastructure and in enabling progress for millions of people around the globe. Here is a glimpse of our company.
Interbrand, the world's largest brand consultancy, recently released its 2012 rankings of the Top 100 Global Brands. Caterpillar is ranked 61st among the world's 100 Top Brands with a value of $6.3 billion. Each year, Interbrand ranks companies by the amount of their revenue that is driven by their brands, using a formula that takes into account the brand's future strength and its role in creating demand. The result says, in effect, the proportion of earnings that is attributable to the brand relative to factors like price, availability and performance. This is the eleventh consecutive year Caterpillar has appeared on the list.
- Caterpillar's ranking this year represents a jump of three places over last year (#64 to #61).
- Caterpillar's brand value increased 13% over last year.
- At #61, this is the highest position Caterpillar has achieved since first appearing on the Interbrand list in 2002.
From the Interbrand report: "Caterpillar is the world's leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines, and diesel-electric locomotives. Caterpillar continues to maintain consistency across all touchpoints, most notably through its communications and dealerships. As the company continues to grow through acquisition, this branding expertise is paying off, as shown by the seamless incorporation of Bucyrus into the brand. R&D investment is at a record USD $2.3 billion, and focus on customers has enabled Caterpillar to gain insight into future needs. In 2011, the company launched the most innovative truck on the market, the CT660, focusing on its application in business rather than just the vehicle itself. Other recent initiatives include: caterpillaruniversity.com (to help customers learn about products) and a website and app to support customers' rental needs. It's no wonder Caterpillar's global sales dwarf those of competitors. Still, highly publicized labor disputes could damage Caterpillar's performance and image."

The longest race and sponsor relationship in Atlantic Canada continues through the 2012 season as Atlantic Tractors and Equipment Limited will present the 13th Annual Atlantic Cat 250 on Saturday, August 11th at Scotia Speedworld. The Atlantic Cat 250 is a marquee event on the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour and one of only two 250 lap events on the 2012 schedule.
"We are very proud of our longtime association with Atlantic Cat, the Atlantic Cat 250 is our signature race at Scotia Speedworld." said Ken Cunning, General Manager of Scotia Speedworld. "This race has long been one of the premiere racing events in our region in the eyes of both competitors and fans. It's a destination event that everyone marks on their calendar."
“Atlantic Cat’s relationship with Scotia Speedworld dates back to the late 1980’s when we initially became involved in motorsport sponsorship.” Said Dan McLeod, Atlantic Cat Regional Manager, Used Equipment & Rentals. “Since 2000 we have proudly sponsored the annual Atlantic Cat 250, for many years touted as some of the best short track racing around. The Atlantic Cat 250 presents itself as the ideal venue for supporting the many teams, drivers and crews that bring an unparalleled level of racing excitement to fans from throughout the region. Atlantic Cat is extremely proud of our near quarter century relationship with the management and staff of Scotia Speedworld.”
The Atlantic Cat began in 2000 under the now defunct International Pro Stock Challenge sanctioning. John Flemming (Halifax, NS) became the winner of the inaugural event and was the only Canadian winner of the event until 2009 when Saint John, New Brunswick’s Lonnie Sommerville pulled into victory lane in the first Atlantic CAT 250 held under Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour sanctioning. For eight years (2001-08) the race was a major event on the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) North schedule and saw a who’s who of racers contend for the crown. Names like Louie Mechalides (Tyngsboro, MA, 2001), Ben Rowe (Turner, Maine, 2002, 2003), Johnny Clark (2004, 2006), Mike Rowe (Turner, ME, 2005, 2007) and Travis Benjamin (Morrill, ME, 2008) won the CAT 250 while it was sanctioned by the Maine based series while Cassius Clark (Farmington, Maine) and won the event in 2010 under Tour sanctioning.
The 2011 event was described by some as one of the best stock car races ever held in the 12 year history of the event. Broadcast to an international audience via Sirius Satellite Radio on Race Time Radio/The Score, the fans were treated to 125-laps of caution free racing leading to the halfway mark. Ben Rowe and Maritime Legend Wayne Smith (Timberlea, Nova Scotia) swapped paint for the first half of the race before Flemming made his charge to the front. When the checkers flew, it was Rowe taking his record setting third win in the Atlantic CAT 250 over Flemming, Smith, Darren MacKinnon (Charlottetown, PE) and veteran Mike MacKenzie (Dartmouth, NS). The race would play a pivotal role in the championship picture as Smith would take the point lead exiting the event and would hold it to take his record setting sixth career Maritime Touring championship.
The Atlantic CAT 250 will go green at Scotia Speedworld with qualifying beginning at 5pm on Saturday, August 11th with the 250-lap feature to follow. The Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour will be joined on Saturday by the Maritime League of Legends Tour and the Scotia Speedworld Hydraulics Plus Bandoleros, making the evening a not miss event full of fantastic short track racing. The action will kick off Friday night at 7pm with the Dartmouth Dodge Sportsman 100 and the Scotia Speedworld Truck class. JAMES RIVER, NS (April 18, 2012) - NASCAR's Joey Logano has been named as the celebrity driver of this year's Cat Car for Kids in the IWK 250 presented by Steve Lewis Auto Body at Riverside International Speedway on July 21.
Logano, nicknamed "Sliced Bread" - as in the best thing since..., is best-known as driver of the No. 20 Home Depot/Dollar General Toyota in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, a seat he's held since 2009 when he won the Rookie of the Year title in NASCAR's premier series. He also competes part-time on NASCAR's Nationwide Series driving the No. 20 Toyota. Both cars are fielded for Logano by Joe Gibbs Racing. He is currently 13th in Sprint Cup Series point standings after seven events; he has one Sprint Cup Series win on his resume along with 10 Nationwide Series victories. Logano is the youngest driver to ever win in both the Sprint Cup and Nationwide series.
"We're thrilled to have a driver of Joey's calibre joining us this year," said Riverside track manager Paul McLean. "It is especially meaningful when you consider their busy schedules and that they take the time to compete in events like ours."
Dan MacLeod, Regional Manager, Used Equipment & Rentals at Atlantic Cat, sponsor of the Cat Car for Kids for Logano, is equally thrilled to be involved with the event for the fourth straight year."Atlantic Cat’s relationship with the IWK 250 and Cat Car for Kids program started in 2008 when we proudly became an annual sponsor of the impressive event," said MacLeod. "Riverside International Speedway presents itself as the ideal venue for supporting the many teams, drivers and crews that bring an unparalleled level of racing excitement to fans throughout our region. Atlantic Cat is particularly proud to be part of an event that makes a difference in the lives of sick children and their families who will benefit the most from the race."
Logano, who will be 22 in May, is coming to Riverside with one thing on his mind: winning.
"I am competitive in everything I do, whether it is fooseball or driving cars," said Logano. "I expect the competition will be tough with the regional racers but I can promise you if I have a shot for the win at the end of the race, I will go for it." Logano is hoping his expertise at Bristol Motor Speedway, where he has a Nationwide Series win, will help him adjust to Riverside, which was built as a scale-model of the famous Tennessee track.
"I expect the competition will be tough but I'm hoping my experience at Bristol will help me adapt quickly," said the Connecticut native. "I will be the one guy in a car he's never driven on a track he's never seen. People will expect us to run up front. I think they would be disappointed if we don't."Logano's trip to Riverside will be his first to Nova Scotia and third race in Canada, where he has competed in Montreal's Nationwide Series events.
"Canada has great racing and amazing fans," said Logano, now a resident of Huntersville, North Carolina. "I am really looking forward to the IWK 250."
Logano joins an impressive list of NASCAR celebrity drivers who have entered the IWK 250, including Aric Almirola, Marcos Ambrose, Ricky Craven, David Reutimann, and Regan Smith - the only celebrity driver who has managed to take the prestigious IWK 250 crown from the local drivers (2008).The Cat Car for Kids program sponsored by Atlantic Cat provides an integral link in the event to the facility it is named for - and especially to the patients and their families when a few days before the race, both Logano and the race car will make an appearance at the IWK Children's Hospital in Halifax, where those in attendance will be invited to sign the car as co-sponsors with Atlantic Cat.
Since 2007 the IWK 250 presented by Steve Lewis Auto Body has raised awareness - and more than $100,000 - for the IWK Children's Health Centre. The 2012 edition of the IWK 250 presented by Steve Lewis Auto Body is set for July 21 at Riverside International Speedway as the culmination of a two-day special event that will open July 20 with the Napa Sportsman Series. Tickets and event details will be announced as the event draws closer.
